# The Media Area: One Place to Share

> Everything you share in BigBlueButton 4.0 — slides, your screen, an external video, or a camera as content — goes through the media area.

<Note>
  **Draft** — this page is draft documentation for BigBlueButton 4.0. The details described here may change before release.
</Note>

In 3.0, the things you could share were spread through the **Actions (+)** menu alongside tools that had nothing to do with the presentation. BigBlueButton 4.0 gathers all of them into the **media area** — the central part of the screen, and the one place you go to put something in front of the class.

## What you can share

| Content               | What it does                                                     |
| --------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Slides** | Upload a presentation and show it to the class. |
| **Screen** | Share a screen, window, or browser tab. |
| **External video** | Play a video from YouTube or another supported link. |
| **Camera as content** | Point a second camera at a document, a whiteboard, or an object. |

## Upload and switch slides

<Steps>
  <Step title="Upload">
    Drag and drop your files onto the media area. Each one appears as a thumbnail, so you can see what you have loaded rather than reading a list of file names.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose">
    Select **Slides**, then select the thumbnail you want.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Share">
    Select **Share**. The slides appear in the media area for everyone.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Close the dialog">
    Select anywhere outside the dialog and it closes.
  </Step>
</Steps>

Switching between uploaded presentations later uses the same three steps — select **Slides**, pick the thumbnail, select **Share**.

<Tip>
  The whiteboard and presentation controls themselves are unchanged from 3.0. What moved is how you choose *what* to put in the media area.
