BNX Insights is a sidecar built on the BNX framework that connects the Moodle course context to the live BigBlueButton session. Instead of a teacher only seeing who has joined, Insights surfaces who was expected, based on the Moodle course roster, along with relevant course context as in-session alerts.

What problem it solves

By default, a teacher running a BigBlueButton session only sees the participants who actually joined. There’s no easy way to tell, in the moment, whether a student is late, absent, or was never enrolled to begin with, and no way to surface Moodle-side context (grades, group membership, prior attendance) without leaving the session to check Moodle. Insights closes that gap by bringing course roster data and relevant Moodle context directly into the session.

  • Expected attendee roster — passes the Moodle course roster into the BigBlueButton session so moderators can see who is enrolled, not just who has joined.
  • Missing participant visibility — highlights enrolled students who haven’t joined, making it easy to spot absences as the session runs.

Insights depends on the BNX framework being installed and enabled. BNX provides the shared extension points, and Insights plugs into them to add roster awareness and contextual alerts to the session experience described in BigBlueButton activity view with BNX.

Insights is aimed at institutions that want better real-time visibility into attendance and engagement during live sessions, particularly larger deployments where teachers manage many students across multiple courses and can’t rely on manually cross-checking Moodle rosters.
