Anyone joining a BigBlueButton session on macOS needs to grant the browser permission to use the microphone. If you previously denied that permission, macOS blocks audio even after the in-session prompts succeed.

Grant microphone permission at the system prompt

macOS microphone permission prompt The first time you join a session after a system update, macOS prompts you to allow the browser to access your microphone. To grant access, select OK. If you selected Don’t Allow, or you suspect you did, macOS blocks your microphone even after you allow access in the browser. Re-enable it in System Preferences.

Re-enable microphone access for your browser

macOS Apple menu To open system settings, select the Apple menu and choose System Preferences. System Preferences window To open privacy settings, select Security & Privacy. Microphone privacy settings with privacy, microphone, and application checkbox callouts To find the microphone list, select the Privacy [1] tab, then select Microphone [2] from the sidebar. A list of applications that have requested microphone access appears. To allow your browser to use the microphone, check the box next to the application [3].
Restart the browser before rejoining the session so the new permission takes effect.
You can now share your microphone in BigBlueButton.
